Why a separate guide for PC

On a computer it is easier to copy the long URL you get after OAuth, as well as the clip address from your VK tab. If the API only returns HLS, a PC makes it simple to run ffmpeg from a terminal using the instructions on the tool page.

You do not need a "download VK video" Chrome extension: saved.video works in a regular browser and never asks you to install a plugin.

Step by step on a computer

1. Open the clip on VK - In a separate tab, open the video on vk.com or vkvideo.ru and make sure it plays under your account.
2. Sign in to saved.video with VK - On the tool page, click sign in, allow access to your videos, copy the full URL after the redirect, and paste it into the form.
3. Paste the clip link - Copy the address of the tab with the video (or the owner_video ID) into the file search field.
4. Download the MP4 - Pick the result. The file goes to your browser's downloads folder. For HLS, follow the ffmpeg block on the page.

When you need ffmpeg

Some VK clips only return HLS (.m3u8), with no progressive MP4. In that case the interface shows a stream link and a sample command. That is normal for part of VK Video's content.

• Install ffmpeg once on your system
• Copy the command from the results page
• Run it in the terminal - the file assembles locally

Using a session on a work PC

• Do not leave a tab with the URL token open on a shared computer
• Click "Sign out" in the tool when you are done
• Do not paste the OAuth URL into messengers "for review"
