How to Download a YouTube Video by Link

Download a YouTube video by link with saved.video: paste the video URL, choose a quality up to 1080p, and save the file in your browser. No account or software needed - Shorts work too as long as you have a direct link to the video.

What you need first

To download from YouTube by link online, all you need is the URL of a specific video and a browser. No sign-up on saved.video is required. Watch-page URLs, short youtu.be links, and Shorts all work. The tool does not handle playlists or "download an entire channel" - you need a single video page. MP3 extraction and guaranteed 4K are not part of the service.

  • A browser on a computer or phone
  • A publicly available video (private or deleted ones will not download)
  • Awareness of the limits: currently video only, no separate MP3

Step by step

  1. Copy the link - Open the video on YouTube and copy the address. From the app it is easiest via Share -> Copy link.
  2. Paste it into saved.video - Open the "Download from YouTube" tool, paste the link, and search for available options.
  3. Choose a quality - The list depends on the video: 360p, 720p, and 1080p are usually available. Higher resolutions are not always offered - some formats aren't collected by the service yet.
  4. Download the file - Pick an option - your browser will start the download. On a phone, the file lands in your Downloads folder or the Files app.

Which quality to choose

For watching on a phone, 720p is usually enough - the file is smaller and downloads faster on mobile data. For a big screen, take the highest quality available, usually up to 1080p.

  • 360p / 480p - fast, saves data
  • 720p - a good balance of quality and size
  • 1080p - if it appears in the list
  • 4K - not guaranteed: many videos only offer it in formats the service does not collect yet

Limitations

  • Video only - no separate MP3 extraction or "music from YouTube"
  • 4K and rare codecs may be unavailable
  • Private, age-restricted, and inaccessible videos cannot be downloaded
  • Whole playlists and channels are not supported by this tool

The up-to-date FAQ is on the tool page.

If it doesn't work

  • Make sure the link points to a single video, not a search or channel page
  • Refresh the page and paste the link again
  • Try a different quality if a specific format is unavailable
  • On iPhone, make sure Safari/Chrome isn't blocking downloads for the site
